Where: On Turtle Island (a NY State campground) in the narrows of Lake George, reached by a 2 mile canoe paddle. (Lake George is 60 miles north of Albany, NY; about 230 miles from NCC. The drive will take 5-6 hours.)
Who: The trip is run by the Rensellaer Polytechnic Institute's Rensellaer Outing Club (ROC) and the 150 or more students who attend come from schools all over the Northeast. It is run through the Intercollegiate Outing Club Association (IOCA).
What: We arrive at Bolton Landing on Lake George early-evening (hopefully), canoe out to the island (weather permitting) and set up camp. Saturday is spent hiking and/or canoeing (Tongue Mountain is a very short paddle away, Black Mountain and Shelving Rock, a long paddle). Saturday night ROC has arranged a dinner and square dance on the island. Sunday we break camp, and canoe back.
OTHER DETAILS:
Canoes and Kyacks may be rented if reserved in advance; some NCC canoes are available. (If you can bring your own canoe this will lower your cost.) A powerboat is available for emergencies or to take those who don't wish to canoe.
Food may be brought individually or by our group on the way up. This year ROC will be supplying the food on Saturday evening; we will discuss this more at the Club meeting before the trip. Stoves and cooking equipment can be supplied but each person should bring their own plates and utensils. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited.
Shelter consists of individual tents. If you do not have one, often others on the trip can share theirs with you and the Club owns some. A warm sleeping bag is advisable and several are available if you do not have one. You should discuss equipment needs at the meeting before the trip.
Transportation is by school van and private cars, as available. If you can take several others in your car, the gas & tolls will be paid.

We suggest warm shirts, sweaters, jackets, hat, jeans, long underwear, shorts, hiking boots, sneakers for the square dance, raincoat or poncho, bathing suit, sun glasses, and towel.
